Window Screen Repair
Between you, the pollen and everything else outside
Torn mesh, frames gone out of square, screens that fall out when touched, and sun-rotted mesh that splits at a fingertip. All of it is repairable, and most of it while we are there.

What your screens are made of, and what they are for
In a state with this much pollen, this many insects and this much sun, the mesh you choose does real work.
A screen is three things: a frame, a spline that grips the mesh into a channel around it, and the mesh itself. All three are consumable and all three are replaceable, which is why a torn screen is one of the cheapest repairs in the building and one of the most commonly neglected.
The mesh choice matters more here than most people realise. Standard fibreglass handles mosquitoes and flies. Fine no-see-um mesh is what actually stops the gnats that make outdoor life south of the fall line difficult for several months a year. Pet-resistant mesh is several times stronger than standard and is the only sensible choice where a dog or cat leans on a screen. Solar screen mesh is denser again and blocks a substantial share of solar heat before it reaches the glass, which on a west-facing Georgia room is the cheapest cooling improvement available.
Screens also carry a share of the pollen load every spring, which is part of why they clog and why frames that are never cleaned end up holding moisture against the sash below them.
If nothing at the store fits your openings, that is normal. Georgia homes of a certain age are full of non-standard sizes, and building a screen to the opening you actually have costs very little more than buying one that nearly fits.
Nobody should be replacing a window over a screen
Screen mesh is a consumable. It is meant to be replaced, and replacing it costs a tiny fraction of anything else on a window. Frames can be squared up, corners rebuilt, and where a frame really is finished, a new one can be made to the exact size of your opening.
The reason screens get neglected is that they feel trivial until they are not. A torn screen in Georgia means insects indoors, a window you stop opening in the three or four genuinely pleasant months of the year, and in a rental it means a complaint. The repair usually takes under an hour.
It is also the one repair where the upgrade is genuinely worth considering. If the mesh is coming out anyway, finer or solar mesh costs marginally more and changes how the room feels.
Mesh wearing out is not a reason to replace anything but the mesh.

Screen work we do
Window screens, sliding screen doors, porch panels and full custom builds.
Rescreening
New mesh in your existing frames, tensioned properly so it does not bow or pull away from the spline.
Frame repair and squaring
Bent corners, split spline channels and frames that have racked, straightened and rebuilt.
Solar screen mesh
Mesh that rejects a large share of solar heat before it reaches the glass. Worth doing on south and west elevations.
Fine and pet-resistant mesh
No-see-um mesh for the gnats standard screening lets through, and heavy mesh that stands up to dogs and cats.
Sliding screen doors
Rollers, latches and frames on patio screen doors that jump the track or will not stay in the opening.
Screened porch panels
Larger panels on screened porches, rescreened and re-splined to the same standard.
The problems Georgia screens have
Pollen, gnats and a great deal of sun.
Pollen season, every spring
Georgia's pollen load is among the heaviest in the United States, and screens catch a significant share of it. Clogged mesh restricts airflow, holds moisture against the sash below, and is why so many screens look grey rather than black by May.
Gnats below the fall line
Middle and south Georgia have a well-earned reputation for gnats, and standard fibreglass mesh does not stop them. Homeowners frequently assume their screens are damaged when the mesh simply is not fine enough for what is getting through.
UV makes mesh brittle
Sustained Georgia sun degrades fibreglass mesh until it splits at a touch rather than stretching. On a south or west elevation, screening can reach the end of its usable life in a fraction of its rated span.
Why have Doorza do it
A small job, done properly, by people who will actually turn up for it.
Usually done on the spot
We carry mesh and spline, so most rescreening is finished during the visit.
Built to your opening
Custom frames where the standard sizes do not fit, which in older Georgia homes is most of the time.
Happy to do small jobs
Plenty of companies will not come out for screens. We will, anywhere in the state.
Advice on mesh choice
Standard, fine, pet or solar, depending on the elevation and what the screen is actually for.
Three steps, no runaround

Screen questions
Can you rescreen my existing frames?
Yes, and it is usually the best option. New mesh and spline in the frame you already have costs far less than new screens.
Gnats still get in even though my screens look fine.
They may well be fine. Standard fibreglass mesh does not stop no-see-ums, and the fix is finer mesh rather than a repair.
Nothing at the store fits my windows.
Very common in older Georgia homes, where openings are not standard sizes. We build screens to the opening you actually have.
Should I take my screens out for pollen season?
Not necessary, but they are worth rinsing once the worst of it passes. Pollen left in the mesh holds moisture against the sash and shortens the life of both.
What is solar screen mesh?
A denser mesh that blocks a significant share of solar heat and glare before it reaches the glass. On west-facing rooms it makes a noticeable difference to how the space feels in the afternoon.
Other repairs we handle
Doors and windows are all we do, so whatever has failed, it is probably on this list.
